I try not to rank games I've finished before on these lists but, sometimes you have to be true to yourself. Since the incredible remaster of Metroid Prime came out, I've been hoping and hoping 2 would see the same treatment and eventually I got impatient and decided to check out the Primehack version instead. This version doesn't really make any fundamental changes (for the real impressive stuff you gotta check out 3) but it does make an already beautiful game look fantastic on a PC. And unlike on a Gamecube, I can take lots of pictures this way. Anyway, Prime is a top tier game but I've always felt like it plays things a little safe in terms of environmental design: you've got the forest area, the fire area, the ice area, the pirate base area, beautiful but fairly typical. After Prime's success, I imagine the developers felt like they could really cut loose with the sequel, and consequently Prime 2's art direction goes completely off the hook to create some unmatched atmosphere in a series known for its powerful seclusive moods. No, I never ran out of ammo because the game gives you plenty. No, I don't care about KeyQuest, backtracking at the end of the game is one of the purest pleasures in any search action title. The multiplayer is pointless? Sorry I can't hear you over the sound of the coolest menu I've ever seen in my life.
