10. Yars Rising

♫ Music: Kodoku na Rainy Night

~Winner of the "Coolest Future-Jacket" Award~

I've never played the original Yars' Revenge, or any of the other sequels, but the trailer for this had pizzazz and I like WayForward well enough. This game definitely draws from their experience with Shantae, especially the more search actiony elements, but where it really shines is the hacking minigame. You hack by, playing classic Yars! And there is an absurd number of bespoke hacking challenges and twists throughout the game. Plus you can customize your hacking (and regular) capabilities with a pared down version of Battle Network's NaviCust. Yars Rising also manages to grant a charming weight to the mundane at times, such as when you finally make it back home to your apartment and are rewarded with a jacket. And when one of your final powerups turns out to be, the ability to go underwater (since Emi both can't swim and has bug-inspired powers). Also, the music? Out of this world. Beat for beat bangers. Also also, full disclosure I got this game for free. Shoutouts to my friend who works at Atari!
